Hyvää Joulua ja Uutta Vuotta !! Jouluhässäkkää
täällä on piisannut lähes Suomen malliin joskin musiikkina on
vetävää afro-rytmi.
Merry Christmas and New Year !! The Christmas
activities here seem to be very much alike in Finland however
the music here is svinging in afro-rhytms.
2009-12-12 Mindelo, Cabo Verde
Saavuimme Mindeloon eilen, matka kesti hieman
yli 6 vuorokautta. Loppumatkan tuulet olivat heikkoja, NE alle
10 solmua ja Yanmar avustikin menoa varsin paljon. Täällä on
uusi vierasvenesatama joka on yksi siisteimpiä käymistämme
satamista. Ensikosketus sataman aidan taakse tarjosi heti selvän
kultuurimuutoksen kun matkalla laivasataman
maahantuloviranomaisten luokse lukuisa joukko palveluntarjoajia
tarjosi apuaan ja yksi heistä opastikin meitä
viranomaistiskeillä. Toissapäivänä saimme ensimmäisen kalamme
kun noin 3 kg:n dorado iski koukkuun, sitä syömme kolmen päivän
ajan.
We arrived to Mindelo yesterday after just
over six days sailing. The winds during the latter part of the
leg were light, ENE below 10 knots, thus Yanmar was running
quite long time. Mindelo has a new quest harbour and this is one
of the cleanest harbours we have sofar visited. The first touch
to the city behind the harbour fence provided immediately a
clear change in culture when on way to ship harbour
immigration high number of service providers pushed their help
and finally one of them was guiding us when visiting the various
official desks. The day before yesterday we got our first fish
when a dorado of appr 3 kg hit the bite, we are eating that
during three days.

Matkaa on tehty kolme vuorokautta ja olemme
etapin puolivälissä, Mindeloon on matkaa jäljellä 400 mailia.
Olemme myös ylittäneet kravun kääntöpiirin eli siis virallisesti
tropiikissa. Alun heikkojen tuulten jälkeen ne ovat nyt 15-25
solmua E/NE ja matkanopeus vaihtelee 6-8 solmun välillä.
Tuuliperäsin hoitaa ohjailua pitäen noin 120 asteen suhteellista
suuntaa tuuleen. S/y KasteHelmen sitloora toimii hyvin, kova
katto suojaa auringolta ja kun tuulen puolen sivukankaat ovat
alhaalle ei tuulesta ja pärskeistä ole haittaa.
We have now sailed three days and are in the
middle of the leg, distance to go to Mindelo is 400 miles. We
have also passed the Tropic of Cancer and thus officially in
tropics. After the light winds in the beginning they are now
15-25 knots from E/NE giving cruising speed of 6-8 knots. The
windpilot takes care of the steering keeping a steady cource of
120 degrees apparant in relation to the wind. The cockpit of s/y
KasteHelmi works well, the hard top protects from sunshine and
having the wind side canvases down protects from wind and spray.

Itsenäisyyspäivä valtamerellä. Olemme nyt
olleet matkalla kohti Cap Verdeä hieman yli vuorokauden, matkaa
on taitettu välillä koneella, välillä purjeella 5-12 solmun E/NE
tuulissa. Aurinko paistaa taas pilvisen eilisen päivän ja yön
jälkeen. Matkaa on jäljellä Mindeloon Sao Vicenten saarella
675 mailia. Merellä on hiljaista, yöllä nähtiin yhden
rahtilaivan valot.
The Finnish independency day at sea. We have
now traveled towards Cabo Verde for little bit over one day, it
has been both motoring and sailing in 5-12 knots E/NE winds. The
sun is again shining after claudy day and night yesterday. The
distance left to Mindelo in Sao Vicente island is 675
miles. There is not much traffic at sea, we saw the lights of
one ship last night.
2009-12-3 San Sebastian II
San Sebastianista löytyi uusi ulottuvuus
valtamerillä matkustamiseen eli soutaminen. Täältä starttaa
6.12.2009 Atlantic Rowing Race 2009 ja maali on Antigualla
Karibialla. Matkaa kertyy noin 2700 mailia ja aikaa noin 75 vrk.
Veneiden koko vaihtelee yhdestä kolmeen soutajaan. Vaikuttaa
aika hurjalta reissulta, ks

Muuten elämänmeno Gomeralla on varsin
rauhallista ilman suurempaa turistihässäkkää. S/y KasteHelmi
alkaa olla täynnä ruoka- ja juomatarvikkeita pidempää merimatkaa
varten ja tarkoituksemme on lähteä lauantaina 5.12 kohti Cap
Verdeä.
We found a new dimension on ocean travelling
here in San Sebastian, i.e rowing. Atlantic Rowing Race 2009
will start from here on Dec 6, 2009 finishing at Antigua in
Caribbean after appr 2700 miles and 75 days. The size of the
boats vary between one and three rowers. Sounds like a quite

Othervise the lifestyle in Gomera is quite
easy without any major tourist hazzle. S/y KasteHelmi starts to
be full provisioned for a longer ocean trip and our aim is to
departure towards Cabo Verde on Saturday Dec 5. |
